about the Northwood Area
Alongside Redwood and Belfast, Northwood is situated north of Christchurch. Named in 2000, 97 hectares of apple orchard Styx Mill reserve and the southern boundaries of Belfast was named Northwood by the developers R.D Hughes.
Northwood hosts The Styx River, which is one of several springfed river systems that flow through the district of Christchurch. This catchment located on the northern urban edge, is approximately 50 square kilometres. The Styx River flows through and forms part of the Styx Mill Reserve.
Northwood has undergone a substantial amount of development, which has produced newer and more contemporary homes. The Northwood residential area was developed over five years based on a master plan with a strongly articulated new urbanism design principles.
Northwood is close to everything you need. The Northwood Supa Centa with its shops and supermarket is only two minutes drive away. Northlands (one of New Zealands largest malls) is only 8 minutes drive. Belfast and Redwood also have a number of shops mainly on the Main North Road
People who value their leisure time and lifestyle will also be attracted to the close proximity of the Waimakariri River and a variety of walking and cycling tracks. Located just minutes from the Styx Mill Reserve, you can make leisure time a priority close to home. Also a gym facility is located in the Supa Centa just off main north road. A short drive to the East will get you to Spencerville Beach
Northwood is closely situated to some of the best schools in Christchurch including St Bede's College, a Catholic boys high school. The nearest co-ed state high school is Papanui High School. There are two local preschools in Northwood, the Styx Mill Preschool and Nursery on Northwood Boulevard and the Northwood Preschool on O'Neil Avenue. Local primary schools include Redwood Primary School and Belfast Primary School a short distance away.
Northwood is 8km from the CBD. The main North road, which runs into Papanui Road, is one of the main routes linking Northwood to the city. The other is Cranford Street. The routes are well serviced by buses that run regularly to and from the central city.
